Although Restorative Justice interventions clearly can save millions and ultimately billions in the long term, this story shows the difference in peoples' lives and in our communities. Incarceration has already been proven to be ineffective at its orginial intent of "rehabiliation." We know now that incarceration, especially of youth, actually increases the liklihood of repeat offending. This story is a classic example of the stark difference between a "retributive" and a "restorative" impact on the quality of peoples' lives.
